DESCRIPTION:Celebrate National Train Day at the Historic Hendersonville Depot on Saturday\, May 9\, 2026. Bring the family and view the HO scale model trains in the Depot depicting railroading in Western North Carolina from the mid 1950’s to the mid 1960’s. See a live diesel locomotive courtesy of the Blue Ridge Southern Railroad and learn the history of railroading in Western North Carolina. There is also a garden railroad trackside that depicts gravel and timber operations during the 1900’s. Admission is free and open to the public. Hours are 10am to 2pm.

DESCRIPTION:Historic Johnson Farm will host the fifth annual Mother’s Day Market on Saturday\, May 10th from 10 AM-4 PM\, rain or shine. This outdoor craft fair will showcase over 25 local vendors. A diverse array of crafts will be available\, including jewelry\, ceramics\, leather items\, wooden décor\, baked goods and more. \nThe event will take place outdoors at the farm. Hot dogs (donated by Hot Dog World)\, chips\, and drinks will be available for purchase to support the farm’s operating fund. Stop by the farm table to purchase a plant from the Johnson Farm gardeners or a farm logo item like a mug or magnet. The Heritage Weavers & Fiber Artists will have their gift shop open with plenty of fiber gifts for purchase. In addition to the numerous crafters\, the historic farmhouse will be open for self-guided tours\, and people can visit the farm’s donkeys and goats. \nThe six teachers (and some of their students) participating in this year’s USDA Food and Farm grant will have their students’ projects on display for visitors to see. Students from the Innovative High School (Career Academy and Early College) will have their artwork on display at the market. The artwork represents numerous mediums\, including drawings\, paintings\, ceramics\, and other mixed media. \nParking will be available across the street at Rugby Middle School\, and volunteers from the Sheriff’s Office will help visitors cross the street. Handicapped parking is available at the farm. \nHistoric Johnson Farm is located at 3346 Haywood Road\, Hendersonville\, NC 28791. It features 15 acres of forest\, fields\, and streams\, 10 historic structures\, animals and picnic tables. DESCRIPTION:The North Carolina Writers Network & The Brandy Bar Cocktails present NANCY MARTIN-YOUNG & L.E. (Laura) TOWN as next in their series “In the Company of Writers” The program offers a series of personal and conversational dialogues featuring guest writers/poets followed by an open mic forum. These inspirational gatherings will elucidate and entertain those attending. The guest authors speak from 7-8 PM with an open mic from 8-9 PM. The original music of Gregg Davey welcomes you\, continues during intermission\, and closes the evening. Open mic sign-ups are posted at the entry.\nL.E. (Laura) Towne has written nine books including The Crescent Moon Chronicles\, published by Literary Wanderlust\, and indie works–a novella\, an urban fantasy duology and an MM paranormal romance series. She’s also published short fiction and poetry. At fifty\, Towne decided she didn’t want to live the rest of her life working in a cubicle. She attended a small writing workshop at Warren Wilson College and found her people. Throwing all caution and common sense to the wind\, she went back to Northern California\, quit her job\, packed up her Prius\, and drove to North Carolina with the world’s best dog and an ADHD-afflicted cat. She now resides in Raleigh where she pretty much does whatever the hell she wants.\nNancy Martin-Young has played with words as a college professor\, an editor\, a reporter\, a poet\, and a novelist. Her poems have appeared in numerous literary journals. She’s published three spooky romantic suspense novels set in Raleigh (Seeing Things\, Hearing Things\, and Sensing Things\,) Wit and Prattles (a Regency novel spun from Austen)\, a short story collection\, and a poetry chapbook\, The Last Girl Standing. Her awards include a Pushcart nomination\, honorable mention for her poetry collection Headstrong\, and awards from Kakalak\, Pinesong\, Flyleaf Books\, and the Randall Jarrell competition. She lives in Lake Lure with a spoiled basset hound\, a frenetic Cavalier\, a serial killer cat\, and the guy who took her to the prom.\nCo-sponsored by the North Carolina Writers Network and The Brandy Bar + Cocktails\, the program\, “In the Company of Writers” is featured the 2nd Wednesday of each month.
